Traveling Around!

Being abroad in Europe has allowed me the opportunity to travel around to lots of cool places. For this post, I will be sharing some of my favorite trips and experiences in other parts of Spain and other countries near to me. All of these trips were incredible and helped me learn more about other cultures and gain a more global perspective as well.

One of my first trips was to Morocco, a country in Africa. My friend Megan and I knew we wanted to visit Morocco because it is very close geographically to Spain, and we had a dream of riding camels. We specifically traveled to Tangier, Morocco by ferry, which is a city in the very north of Africa. This trip was super cool because we got to experience a culture that is so different from anything we have seen or been a part of before. We also made our camel riding dream happen, and it was incredible.

Two people sit on camels at the beach with arms outstretched, colorful blankets on the camels, and the ocean visible in the background under a cloudy sky.

Another one of my favorite trips was to Porto, Portugal. Porto was absolutely stunning and I loved every second there. Porto is a costal town in Portugal so we were surrounded by water and even went on a boat tour to see the city from a new perspective. The only downside was Porto was VERY hilly so we got our exercise in. Below is a one of my favorite photos that I took from my whole time abroad in Porto.

A scenic view of the Douro River in Porto, Portugal, with traditional Rabelo boats floating on the water. Colorful historic buildings are visible on the hillside. A bridge extends across the river to the right under a lightly clouded sky during sunset.

For my spring break I got almost three weeks off from school, which was crazy. My friend Megan and I decided to make the most of our time, and we planned a 9-day train trip through a total of 5 countries in Europe. We traveled to Barcelona, Spain, where we explored and saw things like the Sagrada Familia. Then we took the train to Nice, France, where we swam at Coco Beach. Then we went further north to Interlaken, Switzerland, which was incredible. We got to see the Swiss Alps and even paraglided from a hill to see the city from a new perspective. After that, we traveled to Vienna, Austria, where we walked around and saw so many exquisite buildings. Our final stop was Venice, Italy, where we saw the famous canals. And here we went on a gondola tour, which was super fun.

A tandem paragliding pair flies high above a green valley and town near Interlaken, Switzerland, with a scenic view of Lake Thun and surrounding mountains partially covered by clouds. The two people, dressed in orange and red jackets with helmets and harnesses, smile at a camera mounted on a selfie stick during their mid-air flight.

I also had the opportunity to travel to other places in Spain like Madrid, Valencia, and Granada. All of these cities were super cool as well and helped me learn more about Spain! Overall, all of these trips were incredible and I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to see more of the world. I had so much fun traveling around this semester!
