Having Fun!

One of my favorite parts of studying abroad this far has been all of the fun activities I have gotten the opportunity to participate in! My program plans two activities each week for us to take advantage of if we choose to do so. These activities range from active adventures to casual events. For this post, I will be sharing some of my favorite ways we have been having fun recently in Alicante!

Some of the events are considered intercultural which means students from Spain come to join us which is so awesome. One of the events that they joined us for was bowling, it was so fun! Some of the other activities have been more active like hiking or playing sports. We have gone on two big hikes here in Alicante for our activity time. Both include super pretty vistas at the top looking at the Mediterranean Sea. This has been a fun way to stay active and get to see our city from a new view! We also have played a lot of beach volleyball. Our group had so much fun being outside together and getting a little bit competitive.

A group of twelve people pose on a rocky hilltop overlooking the ocean and a coastal city. They are dressed in casual and athletic clothing, with some wearing sunglasses and carrying water bottles, suggesting they are on a hike. The sky is clear and blue, and the sun casts warm light on the group. The background features the deep blue sea, a coastline with buildings, and rugged terrain with sparse vegetation. The group is smiling and looking at the camera, enjoying the scenic view

We also got the awesome opportunity to go to a flamenco dance class! I was definitely pushed outside my comfort zone but it was so fun. We also completed an escape room in Spanish for one of our activities which was also super challenging but overall so cool. We have also visited multiple museums to learn more about Spanish culture and history. We went to a Spanish Civil War museum where we got the chance to go into real bunkers that were used during the war. We also went to an art museum where we got to see popular art pieces created by Alicante artists.

A group of fourteen young people pose together in a dimly lit, medieval-style room with stone walls, a wooden floor, and a chandelier. Many are dressed in Harry Potter-themed attire, wearing scarves representing different Hogwarts houses, ties, and themed accessories such as round glasses and a wizard hat. A few are holding props, including a Hogwarts house banner. The lighting in the room has a warm, magical glow, with a mix of blue and yellow tones. Everyone is smiling and looking at the camera, appearing to be in an escape room.
Two young women with light skin stand side by side in a dance studio, smiling at the camera. One has long, straight blonde hair and wears a gray sweater with a blue maxi skirt and sneakers. The other has dark, wavy hair and wears a cream-colored sweater with a teal maxi skirt and sneakers. They are standing close together with their arms around each other.

Overall, these activities are just a glimpse into all the fun things that we have gotten the opportunity to participate in. These events have helped me learn more about the culture, get to know new people, and have fun!
